Nreal Light Troubleshooting

Q: I’ve plugged in my Nreal glasses, but there’s no display; what should I do?

A: Nreal Light needs to be activated first before use. There are two ways to activate your Nreal Light AR Headset:

1. Download and install the Nebula app on a compatible Android phone, and insert the glasses into the phone to activate and use them automatically.

2. Use a computer to open the activation website https://www.nreal.ai/support/activationGlasses/, insert the glasses into the computer, and activate the glasses according to the instructions on the webpage.

Q: Why do I need to update my glasses when I connect them to my smartphone and open Nebula? Can I cancel the update?

A: In order to improve product experience, Nreal will continually release new firmware versions for the glasses, fix known problems, and function optimization. When the glasses are plugged into the phone, the Nebula app will automatically detect whether the current version of the glasses is up to date, and if not, it will prompt you to update the glasses. Not using the latest firmware version may cause issues with the glasses, please follow the prompts to upgrade for an optimized user experience.

Q: How can I check if my phone is compatible with Nreal Light?

A: We have a list of devices that are compatible with Nreal Air available on our website: Nreal Light Compatibility. If your device is not listed, you may not be able to use Nebula or AR Space. However, if your device has DisplayPort, you will be able to use Air Casting mode. If you are using an iPhone or iPad, you can use Air Casting mode with the Nreal Adapter and original Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter.

Q: Can I use Nreal Light while wearing my own glasses? What if I am near-sighted or far-sighted?

A: We don’t recommend using Nreal Light with your regular glasses as there will be a distance between the proximity sensor in the center and the wearer equal to the thickness of the glasses frame, making it unstable to use Nreal Light. Nreal Light will recognize if the user is wearing glasses and activate the screen when the distance sensor in the middle of the glasses.

For a better user experience, it is recommended that you visit your optometrist to have your prescription fitted to the prescription lens frame included with your glasses.

Q: Is Nreal Light harmful to your eyesight?

A:

1. Using any electronic product with a screen for extended periods of time may cause eye fatigue;

2. In AR Space mode, the screen distance can be adjusted, and you can adjust it according to your preference;

3. Please also adjust the screen’s brightness to an appropriate level according to the brightness of the current environment to avoid excessive eye fatigue.

We recommend: for every 45 minutes of use, take a 10-minute break before continuing.

Q: Can I use Bluetooth headphones with Nreal Light?

A: Nreal Light has stereo speakers, located on the temples. However, if you wanted a more private audio-visual experience while using your glasses, you can also use Bluetooth earphones and headsets if your glasses are connected to a device that supports Bluetooth.

Q: Can the glasses be charged?

A: Sorry, they can’t. As the glasses are not equipped with batteries, please do not connect your glasses directly to the power supply or a power bank.

Q: Will AR glasses drain my phone battery more quickly?

A: Nreal AR glasses themselves do not have batteries, and require an external power supply during use. Depending on use (Air Casting/AR Space etc.) and the mobile phone itself, the speed of power consumption may vary.

The Adapter has its own battery to supply power to the glasses. Watching long video content like movies through the glasses will consume the mobile phone’s (e.g. iPhone) battery. However, the battery consumption will not be greater watching the same content without the glasses.

========

Q: What is the difference between Air Casting and AR Space?

A: Air Casting: With an HD virtual screen spanning 130″, users with iPhone, Android, Steam Deck and Switch can enjoy a new era of immersive gaming and streaming experiences.

AR Space: AR Space offers a 201″ screen anchored in virtual space, ideal for cloud gaming and is your portal to the Spatial Browser with more immersive AR apps. AR Space is only available on compatible Android phones: Compatible Android List

Q: What AR functions can I use?

A: Users with Nebula-compatible Android phones can enjoy AR content in AR Space, including Cycling, Spatial Web browsing, AR Games from developers, and more.

Q: Will there be communication costs when using Nreal glasses?

A: Nreal Light does not have communication functions. However, when used with the glasses, apps like phone calls, or internet calls, this may result in communication costs.

Q: How do I turn off the glasses?

A: Nreal Light is not equipped with batteries. When they are connected to your mobile phone/tablet PC/laptop via USB-C interface, they will be automatically powered. If they are disconnected from those devices, they will automatically turn off as the power is cut.

Q: Do the glasses have an audio output?

A: Yes. There are built-in speakers in the glasses’ temples. However, if you wanted a more private audio-visual experience while using your glasses, you can also use Bluetooth earphones and headsets if your glasses are connected to a device that supports Bluetooth.

Q: How do I adjust the volume and brightness while using the glasses?

A: The button for brightness adjustment is at the bottom of the right temple.

Use your smartphone for volume adjustment.

You can also adjust the volume and brightness bars above the main menu at AR Space.

Q: Is it normal for the glasses to get hot? Will they be dangerous if they get hot?

A: Any electronic product may get warm during use, and Nreal glasses are no exception. We have controlled and tested the glasses, but as everyone experiences sensitivity to temperature differently, please take off your glasses immediately if you feel any discomfort. Outdoor high-temperature environments will also cause or aggravate heat generation, so please refrain from use in high-temperature conditions.

Q: Why can’t I get a clear image?

A: First, confirm if the protective film on your Nreal glasses has been removed.

Please check whether the optical lens and goggles are clean. If there is any dirt, please use the attached glasses cloth to dip a small amount of alcohol to clean the optical lens and goggles;

You can replace the appropriate nose pads to get a better visual effect;

And you can use the prescription-lens frame that comes with the product once adjusted to your needs at any optical store for a better experience.

Q: How to check the firmware version of the glasses?

A: Connect the glasses to the powered-on computing unit, use the laser to click the Setting icon, and you will see the following version numbers:

Nreal System Version (system): SDM845-202002071736-257 (example)

Controller Version (computing unit): Dec25 2019 (example)

Glasses Firmware Version (glasses): HD1 V0.0.2.1912.27HID64.Release (example)

Q: How to upgrade the firmware of the glasses?

A: Connect the glasses to the computing unit, and if a new version of the glasses’ firmware is detected, it will be automatically upgraded.

Q: Why the plane detection fails?

A: It may be because the OV580 camera was not successfully upgraded, please try to upgrade it;

In addition, if the color of the plane is too single, it will not be conducive to plane recognition.

Q: How to change the display mode while using the computing unit with glasses?

A: The computing unit only supports MR mode currently.

Q: Does it support running 2D apps in the Stereo mode?

A: Yes, supported.

Q: If I use the Dev kit to develop an App but want to make it run on a Nreal-compatible phone, which version of NRSDK shall I use?

A: Need to use NRSDK 1.4.8.

Q: How to use the first-person perspective to record the 3D App I developed?

A: After the 3D App is developed, you need to use the interface provided on the developer’s website to develop a screen projection application tool, and connect to an external device for screen projection.In addition, the “Power-Saving” mode in Nebula needs to be turned off.
